Guest Review of the Granville Island Hotel

This hotel has it all, in our opinion - wonderful service, smiling faces, comfortable rooms, good food, reasonable rates, and it's located at the quiet end of Granville Island. We recently returned from a four-nght stay, and have also stayed here on previous trips. Each and every time we have been impressed with the quality of the hotel.

My wife and I stayed at this hotel in early August this year for 3 nights. We had been on Granville Island before and wanted something close to the action there. We were very pleased with the hotel. We arrived fairly early in the day (mid-morning) and were able to check in right away. Our room was reasonably spacious, clean and well-maintained. When we had a minor problem, maintenance came immediately to look at it and fixed the issue right away. We found our room quiet and never had any noise issues. Front desk staff were very helpful in giving us hints on local activities and with check in and out, as well as bike rental.

The location is close to the Granville Island market, a comedy club, theatre, the galleries and studios of the island and a small ferry ride from the recreational pathway that goes to Stanley Park and the seawall. It is located in a quiet corner of the island next to a waterside park. One night that we were there a fireworks competition was held in the English Bay area. With good directions from the front desk, we found an excellent place to watch the show for free from across the bay and were able to easily walk there and back.

The hotel rents bikes (including helmets) right outside their door and by means of the small ferry (which also takes bikes) you can easily connect with your bike to the main pathways leading all the way to Stanley Park.

We also made use of the bus which we caught just off the island and were able to reach the beaches area in about 20 min.

There is a restaurant associated with the hotel. Our first experience at lunchtime on what was a beautiful, busy sunny holiday weekend was a bit disappointing in that the service was very slow and not super attentive. However, when we later ate breakfast there twice the waiter was exceptional - he even remembered our likes and dislikes from one day to the next. The quality of the food was good, although it was fairly expensive, as you might expect in a big city hotel restaurant. There are several other very inexpensive, informal eating choices nearby for breakfast or lunch in the Granville Is. market building. There are fewer dinner choices on island after the stores shut down, although there are some.
Overall, it was a very positive experience and we would stay there again.

Granville Island is a great location to base a trip from if you are staying in Vancouver. The Hotel was remodeled for the 2010 Olympics. The service is good. The beds and Bathrooms are both quite nice. The parking lots can be have a bit of noise but is FAR better than other hotels I've stayed in while in Vancouver. If possible try to get a room overlooking the water. The rooms on the third floor (top floor) tend to be nicer than the others.
For breakfast check out the market just close to the hotel on the island.
If you want to visit downtown just take the water taxi or "aqua bus" these little boats are fun, not very expensive and the quickest way to gt there.
If you are a jogger simply head to the seawall and head in either direction... personally I prefer heading west towards the beach.
If you want to go to Stanley Park the hotel rents bikes and pedal your way along the sea wall. Nice way to see the park and bit more of Vancouver. Being on the sea wall makes it safe and impossible to get lost.
WiFi was also pretty quick

What a great place to stay and eat. Fantastic views across False Creek Bay!
Have seen some reviews slating the Dockside restaurant which is located in hotel but my husband and I could not fault it both for service and quality of food. Next time we are in Vancouver will definitely book again.
