The feeling walking down the first fairway is remarkable. The forest in the
distance becomes larger, and the second hole appears as an entrance into the
trees.
From the tee box, two is a blind hole unusual for a public course. The hole was
configured to bring in the best features of the land.
Walking down the fairway on number two, the forest subtly surrounds. Birds are
heard; over sixty varieties call the course home, from a red hawk that lives on
top of the large cottonwood between two and sixteen to the barn owls nesting in
the maintenance shed. The canopy of trees have created a natural reverb chamber,
amplifying the song of the birds and the crisp sound of a well struck golf shot.
The dappled light in the trees makes the greens appear as artfully lit stages.
At the Redwoods, the effect of playing golf in a forest is breathtaking.
Across the par three third hole runs a creek, where vine maples wind their way
down the banks. The green is nestled in the center of trees and is surrounded by
gullies providing a challenge for all levels of play.
