COWBOYS TO VIE FOR $360,000 IN PRIZE MONEY IN ALL NEW "INVITATIONAL
EVENT"
The 62nd annual Cloverdale Rodeo will now be the second richest Pro
Rodeo in the country. The Cloverdale Rodeo and Exhibition Association
are pleased to announce that the 2008 Cloverdale Rodeo and Country Fair
will feature a brand new "invitational" rodeo format which will showcase
the top cowboys and cowgirls in the world.
This new format marks the most significant change in the history of the
Cloverdale Rodeo and Country Fair - with organizers anticipating even
more exciting action and entertainment in the rodeo arena. Each rodeo
contestant will compete twice and the combined total score/time will
determine the top eight contestants for the Finals on Monday.
The top 24 cowboys in the Bull Riding, Saddle Bronc and Bareback events,
as well as the top 24 Ladies Barrel Racers, based on the 2007 Final
World Standings, will be invited to compete at Cloverdale. The world's
number one ranked bareback rider, Bobby Mote of Culver, Oregon will be
on the slate at the 2008 Cloverdale Rodeo as well as nine-time National
Finals Rodeo barrel racing contestant Molly Powell
Country Fair
Featured exhibits in the Country Fair will include cooking, baking and
canning competitions, knitting, quilting and hand-made arts and crafts
exhibitions, horticulture and livestock displays and much more.
Custom Car and Hot Rod Show, the 2nd Annual Cloverdale Rodeo and Country
Fair Custom Car and Hot Rod event will feature 24 of BC's top restored
custom and hot rod vehicles. With a combined value topping one million
dollars, these vehicles are sure to be huge crowd pleasers.
30 categories of arts and crafts, including woodwork and collage.
Youth from local 4H clubs will present interactive and educational
displays on the secrets to growing and grooming.
Traditional livestock displays featuring dairy, beef, and poultry.
The Country Fair also features BC's largest traveling midway.
Home Arts at the Country Fair
One of the great traditional exhibits going back to the original Country
Fair 119 years ago is the Home Arts and Country Life displays. Located
in Shannon Hall, visitors to the 2007 Cloverdale Rodeo and Country Fair
will be able to see old style Country Fair competitions including
cooking, baking and canning competitions, knitting, quilting and
hand-made arts and crafts exhibitions. The home arts area takes visitors
back to a time when baking, canning and quilting were time honoured
traditions and family farms were the glue that bonded a community.
Prizes will be awarded in dozens of categories ranging from the
best-canned homemade jam to the best fruit loaf and apple pie.
4H and Animal Displays
One of the most popular parts of the 119-year-old Country Fair is the
educational displays featuring 4H projects and animals. Located in the
Ice Rink complex, this popular area includes cow milking demonstrations
and informational exhibits.
