Based on previous advisors comments, we requested a top floor room, facing away
from the highway. Over a period of two weeks, we had at least six conversations
with staff and each time confirmed that our request was going to be met. Each
time the answer was 'yes'. Unknown to us, was the fact that on the day of our
arrival, the management had given our room away to someone extending their stay.
We arrived a little early to see if our room was ready, and we were told to come
back in an hour to an hour and a half, and all would be ready. I asked if we
were still getting a top floor, away from the highway, and was told 'yes' We
came back and were given the keys to #224. I asked if we were on the top floor,
and I was told that there were no rooms on the ground floor, and that there were
two floors above. We get in the elevator and see that there are three floors.
Figuring that the room keys just don't match the floor numbers, I push '3'. Well
#324 was not our room. When I told the staff that the key wouldn't open the
room, she said well you have room #224, on the second floor! The staff had lied
to us, to our face, three times, and thought well maybe they won't notice? It
was then that we were informed that they had given our room away and that they
would 'try to do something'. The manager was treating us rudely because we
wouldn't accept a situation that they created, and tried to lie about. We were
then told that they would move the people out of the room we had requested, and
that it would have to be recleaned, so to come back in two hours. I had frozen
goods ready to place into the freezer and vegetables to go into the fridge. I
was not willing to wait a further two hours, so reluctantly, we took # 224. I
could smell the scent of stale cigarette smoke from out in the hall, two doors
away. This was not just some one night smoker, but a long period of time, where
people had been smoking in the room. The carpets reeked, the drapes stunk, and
the bedspreads had burns. We spent $15 dollars on Febreeze, and had to treat the
room over two days to knock down the stench. The toilet backed up on the second
night, as did the toilets of three other families that were staying there as
part of our sports team. The handyman who came to fix
it as we were checking out on the third morning, claimed that this happened all
the time there. To top it off, on the floor we were on, the ground was just
below the window, so anyone could stand there at the back of the hotel and work
on entering your room. Our room window didn't lock! I wouldn't stay there again,
even if it was for free. At our tournament there was a raffle prize of one
nights stay at the Chelsea, and I wouldn't place a ticket in the bucket for it.
I encouraged others not to as well, just to avoid the deplorable experience we
had. If you want somewhere to go for an hour with your 'partner'...Go somewhere
else, because this place isn't even good enough for that!! The staff lies to
your face, and then tries to make you feel bad for not bailing them out of a
problem that they created. Unprofessional and definitely not up to Best Western
standards. They should be dropped from carrying the name.

Great hotel overall, especially for a discounted AAA hotel. Rooms are extremely
clean and quite nice for a chain hotel. The best part about this hotel was
probably the cleaning staff....sooo sweet and accommodating. They got to know us
(we were here for over a week for the triathlon world championships) and would
let us in our room at annoying times when they keys didn't work. They were very
sweet and cleaned the room very well, even folding some of our clothes left on
chairs and in the bathroom! Overall, the staff and cleanliness as well as close
proximity to a SkyTrain and restaurants were the high points
low pts
-Every day when we got back our card keys did not work...had to go back down to
the lobby EVERY day to get them fixed and we still do not know wht the problem
is
-it is on a busy street so traffic can be a bit noisy, i seem to sleep fine but
if traffic or other kinds of noise are a prob for you this will be a problem
-cont breakfast is not much more than bread, bagels, pastries, cereal, if lucky
hard boiled eggs
-OVERALL
-I would def recommend this BW, it was a great experience. You cannot expect
perfection from a chain hotel like this, but my stay was overall pretty great,
nice rooms and a great staff

- Overall, the hotel was good. The rooms were clean and appeared to be recently
renovated. In fact, renovation is still taking place at the hotel (front
entrance), in some corridors, and the restaurant.
- Rate was $99/night. There aren't too many hotels in Coquitlam, so the rate
likely reflects the lack of competition. If you can drive a little bit further
west, you'll find more hotels and lower rates in Burbaby which is closer to
Vancouver and 15 mins. from Coquitlam.
- Staff was courteous and unobtrusive.
- Rooms were clean and updated. Bathrooms were nice. I did think the rooms
seemed dusty (likely from the renovation), If you have allergies, I recommend
you check out the rooms first.
- I didn't like the bedding. The beds were covered with a heavy bedspread on top
of the sheets - no blankets on the beds. If you wanted a blanket, you had to get
one out of the drawer in the television cabinet. These blankets were thin. Does
the hotel expect you to use the bedspread as your blanket? I don't like the idea
of this. Typically, when I'm in a hotel, I want to get that bedspread off the
bed as soon as possible.
- Hotel is located on a busy street that is close to the the on/off ramp for
Highway 1, the main highway into Vancouver, BC. If you stay here, I recommend
asking for a room on the back side of the hotel not the front. The back side was
pretty quiet.
- Free parking
- Breakfast was good - coffee, tea, danish, muffins, toast, cereal
- Hot tub was indoors and very clean; open till 10pm
- Outdoor pool was unusually small, but closed due to the season.
- No workout center
- Free Internet access in lobby, but painfully slow. They need to upgrade this.
It's not acceptable. A simple Google search took minutes to get the results.
Not a bad hotel if you're looking to stay for a night.
