| Vancouver English Bay |
English Bay Beach Park and the
calm, warm waters of the bay lead into the
Georgia Strait and Pacific Ocean. The warm
climate and large sandy beaches, palm tree lined
streets are loved by both residents and
tourists.
Its main thoroughfares, Denman and Davie
Streets, are lively, vibrant and decidedly
upbeat. They cut through an area that manages to
be one of the most densely populated districts
in Canada, and yet, there's a certain calming
presence about the place - it's easy to find
yourself strolling along one of its quiet,
tree-lined streets following the fragrance of
the sea down to its expansive beach or sipping a
cappuccino as you watch the world go by.
Stanley Park, Denman Street, and Robson Street
provide an abundance of activities, shopping,
restaurants and accommodations.
Whether you are just spending
the day in English Bay or have lived here for
years, there is a lot to see around this area.
A popular swimming locale
since the turn-of-the-20th-century, English Bay
Beach is located along Vancouver’s Stanley Park
seawall system. On a warm summer day, especially
on the weekends, tons of Vancouverites and
visitors of all ages gather along this strip of
sand for a day of fun in the refreshing waters
of English Bay.
English Bay Beach has all the amenities you need
for a day in the sun, including a fully-equipped
bathhouse and washrooms, concession stands for
hungry beach-goers, kayak rentals, and nearby
locations for preparing a family barbecue. The
beach is lifeguard-protected from late May until
early September, making it the perfect location
for families with young children and beginning
swimmers.
As an added treat, warm Sunday afternoons bring
concerts to the Victorian bandstand that sits
near the beach. English Bay Beach also plays
host to two exciting annual events: the frigid
Polar Bear Swim on New Year’s Day and the
spectacular Celebration
of Light Fireworks
competition each July/August.The event will be simulcast on ROCK 101.1 FM.
The best viewing points are from English Bay, Jericho,
Kits,
Stanley Park and West
Vancouver. However, English Bay beats the rest
hands-down: you're right in front of the fireworks barge
and the loudspeakers for the music simulcast are right
behind you. Plan to set out a blanket by 7:00 pm if you
want to watch from English Bay.

Festival Society at 604-641-1193.
