The Scene
One of Vancouver's most visible landmarks is the big silver ball that
encompasses the Alcan Omnimax Theatre at Science World. Built for Expo '86,
Science World is a museum devoted to educating students and tourists alike about
the wonders of the world around us and the developments of the modern age. The
Omnimax theatre is used as an integral part of this objective, showcasing Imax
films with a focus on education and learning.
Location and Access
Visible from almost anywhere in downtown, Science
World is located at Main and
Terminal, directly opposite the Main Skytrain, station and on the #3 Main bus
route. Lots of meter parking is available if you insist on driving.
At 27 metres (89 feet) in diameter, the Alcan OMNIMAX Theatre is one of the
world’s largest dome screens. The powerful sound system has 28 speakers and
10,000 watts to engulf you in a hurricane or carry you deep into the heart of a
jungle. The theatre shows fascinating films about science, nature and adventure. |
