| About the Orpheum Theatre
|
| Originally opened on November 7, 1927 as a vaudeville house, the Orpheum
was the largest and most opulent theatre on the Pacific Coast.
The
City of Vancouver purchased the theatre on March 19, 1974 and undertook
a complete restoration of the theatre's interior. The Orpheum re-opened
on April 2, 1977 as the permanent home of the Vancouver Symphony
Orchestra and a restored concert hall that hosts a variety of pop,
classical, choral and chamber recitals.
It is also an ideal venue for concert recordings, conference
sessions, seminars and film shoots.
Starwalk at the Orpheum was inaugurated on July 24, 1994, honouring
members with plaques embedded in the sidewalk along Granville Mall near
the Orpheum. The Starwall gallery inside the Orpheum is a display of
member's photos. To date 158 individuals have been honoured with
induction into the Hall of Fame and Starwalk at the Orpheum

Parkade is at Smithe and Seymour. Enter from Seymour Street going North.
Ground level parking lot at Robson and Seymour.
There are many parkade's in the immediate area, metered street parking
is in fair supply in the area. All metered parking in the downtown core
is free after 8pm.

There are 4 wheelchair spaces (4 in the orchestra section only). As of
July 2, 2008 there will not be an elevator accessible from the Smithe
St. entrance due to work being done to refurbish the existing one.

Everyone must have a ticket. Babes in arms (6 months and under) are
admitted free but not encouraged.

For V.S.O. performances, when there is a guest pianist, patrons may wish
to sit in the left or left centre orchestra as they will be more able to
see the piano keyboard (although a perfect view cannot be guaranteed).
