Creations 1990 - 2007
BBC is consistently acknowledged by audiences, critics and the artistic
community, as an innovative, creative and risk-taking dance company. Of
the works in the repertoire, twelve were created by John Alleyne; and
twenty-four were created by Canadian choreographers (including John
Alleyne). This dedication to presenting new works as often as possible
clearly reinforces the company's mandate for creating and presenting
superior contemporary dance.
Collaborations with theatre directors, visual artists, modern dance
choreographers, actors, playwrights and composers that have expanded
BBC’s vocabulary include Petites danses pour mammiferes (1997) by Myriam
Naisy, a joint project with the Banff Arts Festival, and the governments
of Canada and France; Boy Wonder (1997); John Alleyne's "Goldberg"
(1998); The Faerie Queen (2000), the company's first full-length
narrative ballet; and the full-length Orpheus (2002); Carmina Burana
(2004); The Rite of Spring (2005); and A Streetcar Named Desire (2006),
an original full length ballet by John Alleyne to an original jazz score
by Tobin Stokes. |
