Super 8
Motel Kelowna -
This Super 8 is located
approximately five miles from Kelowna Airport and three
miles from downtown. |
Sandy beaches that stretch along a
crystalline lake. Deep, soft powder that cradles the skis ever so gently.
Emerald fairways that look upon bountiful orchards and distant sailboats. Or the
delightful flavour of culture that thousands seek during the annual wine
festivals. It all begins with natures basic ingredient: spectacular natural
surroundings cushioned in one of Canada's best climates.
The generosity of the
climate - from the heat of the summer to the gentle crispness of the winter -
has proved a welcome host for newcomers and visitors. Kelowna is the hub of the
Okanagan Valley which has long been a vacation destination and the heart of BC's
orchard industry.
The city is a key location for medical services like Kelowna
General Hospital and the new Southern Interior Cancer Clinic. Okanagan
University College provides post secondary education to the entire southern
interior, and an impressive collection of superstores and shopping centres is an
indication of the faith with which Canadians view the economic stability of
Kelowna.
The Central Okanagan offers residents and visitors a potpourri of recreation
adventures, like the breathtaking splendor of the Kettle Valley Railroad hiking
trail, and family attractions such as Scandia Amusement Park. Culture is not
forgotten with a wide array of museums and art galleries, as well as the
Okanagan Symphony Orchestra and Sunshine Theatre.
The city boasts sophisticated
convention facilities, with world-class golf courses, restaurants and five-star
resorts all within minutes of downtown.
The natural powder at Big White Ski
Resort attracts skiers from across Canada each winter.
Kelowna is
also the key location in one of the best wine making regions in the world. A
bountiful number of vineyards offer their wares from the North Okanagan right
down to the U.S. border. As the climate changes, so does the variety of grapes
and the expertise that makes Okanagan wines so distinct from each other and from
others throughout the world.
More than any of it's other unique characteristics, Kelowna's wonderful weather
best explains why thousands of visitors return every year. Our envied climate
also has a lot to do with the city's steadily growing population and thriving
economy. We have a whopping average of 2,000 hours of sunshine every summer, our
days are warm, even downright hot, with the average maximum temperature of 28 C
(82F). It's not uncommon for the mercury to bubble up into the mid or even high
30s. In fact, one-third of the summer's daily temperatures reach 30 C or more -
it's no wonder Kelowna was once dubbed "Canada's Hawaii". Summers are blessed
with nice dry air, low humidity, cool evenings and only 111 mm of rain (4.3
inches) between June and September.
Winters can be cold, but they're usually
mild by Canadian standards, featuring cool humid air and cloudy skies.
The
average maximum temperature in January is 0 C (32 F). Folks around town don't
spend much time shovelling or sweeping off their cars, thanks to fairly light
snowfall - 105 cm (41.5 inches) between November and March. Higher plateaus
receive much more, which is great news for the ski resorts. For those who shy
away from the cold, there's never a long wait for warmer weather. The shoulder
seasons of spring and fall show up sooner and stay longer than almost any other
part of Canada. |
